El Català és una animal ideal pel tir lleuger, per feines al camp i especialment indicat per fer marxes a la sella per zones de muntanya. El seu origen, cal cercar-lo en èpoques molt antigues, segurament de tipus cèltic, els seus parents propers són el cavall de Merens a l'Ariege, el cavall Losino a Burgos i el Mallorquí a les Balears. El és de caràcter dòcil, noble i treballador. Molt resistent als canvis climàtics del nostre país i pastura en tot tipus de terrenys.

The Catalan draught horse is the ideal animal for light horse-powered work, for ploughing fields, and especially for excursions under saddle in mountainous areas. Its origins are found way back, probably in the Celtic eras. Its nearest equine relatives are the Mérens horse, native to the Pyrenees, the Losino horse from northern Spain, and the Majorcan horse from the Balearic Islands. The Catalan draught horse has a docile temperament and is very noble and hard-working. It is very resistant to the climactic changes of our country and they do well grazing on all types of terrain.

We offer you the chance to discover hidden corners of our countryside using one of the oldest and most exhilarating forms of transport, the horse-and-carriage, driven by knowledgeable experts. The Garrotxa, land of blunderbusses, bandits and smugglers; the Pla de l’Estany, powerful and in the first flush of youth; and the Empordà, spellbinding, abundant and open-minded: these are the three counties whose waterways supply the Fluvià river and the setting for our excursions with horse-and-carriage.

A HORES / Short excursions

Són les més indicades per a una primera experiència. Es realitzaran pels voltants d'Espinavessa i Crespià. La durada pot ser aproximadament de 1/2 hora i d'un hora en els trajectes mes llargs.

As a first experience we recommend one of our short trips, which last approximately half an hour to an hour, around the villages of Espinavessa and Crespià.

MIGDIA / HALF-DAY EXCURSIONS

Tene una durada aproximada de tres a quatre hores, depenent del recorregut escollit. Pot incloure l'esmorzar o el dinar, si es vol.

These trips last between three and four hours depending on the route chosen. Breakfast and/or lunch are included if desired.

DIA SENCER / FULL DAY EXCURSIONS

La durada es de sis a vuit hores. En aquesta modalitat hi queden inclòs l'esmorzar i el dinar.

These routes last between six and eight hours. Breakfast and lunch are included.

Associació la Tartana


La Associació la Tartana te com a fins fomentar i promocionar la raça de català, així com a promoure la defensa, conservació i millora permanent de la raça. Per aconseguir les seves finalitats, l’associació realitza les activitats següents: - Fomentar el coneixement de l’existència dels cavalls de tir Català tot organitzant a tal efecte els actes orientats a la seva divulgació com ara participació en fires, certàmens, conferències, concursos, demostracions, publicacions, etc. - Divulgar i potenciar e l’ús del cavall de tir com a cavall de treball ja sigui en el camp, al bosc, enganxats o com cavall de sella. - Col.laborar amb altres associacions les quals tinguin com a finalitat la defensa, protecció i promoció de la raça, i fomentar la millora permanent tenint en compte els estandarts de la raça i els criteris cinentifics i tecnics dels cavalls de tir català,. - Fomentar la relació entre tots els propietaris criadors d’aquests cavall que puguin ser succeptibles dels estandars d’aquesta raça equina tot procurant la millora de la mateixa


La Tartana Association

The main objective of La Tartana Association is to support and promote the cavall de tir català, or Catalan draught horse. More specifically we aim to ensure the continued existence of the breed, to defend it and to encourage the breeding of the best examples of this native equine breed.
The Association takes part in the following activities with the aim of achieving these objectives: organising events to widen public awareness of the existence of the breed, such as participating in country fairs, trials, conferences, competitions and demonstrations, as well as producing publications to promote knowledge of the breed. We also aim to encourage and popularize the use of the Catalan draught horse as a work horse be it ploughing fields or hauling in wooded areas, be it for driving (hitching it to a  wagon, cart or carriage) or simply for riding under saddle.
The Association pledges to collaborate with other associations with similar aims. Our shared interest in the continued existence of the breed is always guided by the breed standard, and by scientific and technical criteria related to the Catalan draught horse. We encourage communication and a good relationship between owners and breeders of the cavall de tir català in order to ensure the best possible breeding practices to produce increasingly outstanding examples of the breed.
